Dissolve Emotional Triggers…And Free Yourself

Ever notice that people in our lives trigger us emotionally — especially people who are most important to us – family, spouse, kids, employer – people who are important in our lives? And it usually happens when we’re not expecting it?

Do you notice that this emotion and our reaction to it keeps coming up over and over again? That emotional trigger, whether it’s anger, fear or anxiety causes us to stop and take notice of how we’re feeling… and it’s usually not good.

These triggers are mirroring to us what energy we are carrying inside of us that is ready to be released so that we can move it out of our bodies and break that pattern. Isn’t that amazing!

Eckhart Tolle demonstrated that in his book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose as he describes an encounter between two ducks having an experience of conflict but almost immediately shake off their emotions and go their separate ways.

Nature illustrates the simplicity of letting go of emotions, but we humans have learned to suppress our emotions.

Why? Because they don’t feel good and we avoid things that cause us to feel bad. Ever avoid having to tell someone unpleasant news?

Emotions are energy in motion.

They are meant to flow through us. Because they don’t feel good, we try to control it or not feel it — but those old, tired emotions keep coming up throughout our lives.

So instead of dealing with the emotion at the time we feel triggered, we judge it and hold onto it.  An example would be — we tell ourselves at an early age “my mother doesn’t love me because she gave my brother ice cream and not me.”

It’s the perception that we make in that moment that locks it in the body and causes us to keep feeling it in different forms for 10, 20, 50+ years, if we don’t deal with it.

The interactions we have with people cause us to feel those feelings again (either with the same people or new faces pop up) over and over again until we notice the pattern.

The next time you feel something come up for you, maybe its fear, distrust, anxiety, notice where it is in your body. The body is very intelligent and always lets us know what we’re carrying.

Then actually feel it.

Feel the anger. Feel the anxiety. Feel the sadness. Feel whatever emotion is coming up without judging it, without telling ourselves the story over again.

When an experience happens and we let it go, it doesn’t land in the body. It flows through us (just like the ducks). But when we make a judgment about whatever happened and label it, we close ourselves off from feeling it and it becomes stuck in our cells.

We’re physical and spiritual beings so it becomes part of our energy bodies. And those emotions go out into the universe and always comes back to us — just like a boomerang. That’s the law of attraction at work.

The good news?

These old, stuck emotions can be released layer by layer. We may cry, etc. but it will feel good!

It’ll be a release of tension that has built up over years. The next time you become triggered it will be less and less. Isn’t that great news?

1) notice when you’re being triggered
2) notice where the sensation is in your body (it can be tension, tightness, pulsing)
3) decide to actually feel it completely for at least 1 ½ minutes or more without beating yourself up or judging it in any way        (you can do this!)
4) let yourself be angry or cry (it’s only 1 ½ minutes out of your life instead of 50 years!)
5) enjoy the release and let it go!!

The Importance of Gratitude to Get What You Want

Think about something that you feel grateful for — really grateful. Sit with that feeling for a minute or longer. Do you notice that thinking about and appreciating whatever you are grateful for leaves you feeling happier, maybe even elated? That’s what being grateful does for you — because gratitude and love are the highest vibrations you can feel. And because they are so high, you feel wonderful that can lead you to attracting what your heart desires. 

When we feel gratitude for even the smallest things in our lives, we exude love and happiness so then that’s what we attract. When we’re feeling angry, sad or anything less than loving and grateful, we tend to attract those types of energies and experiences in our lives.

Some Simple Ways We can Raise our Gratitude Vibration

  1. Think of something that you’re grateful for — could be as simple as receiving a discount on something you bought or for your child’s happy and loving smile towards you. Then focus on your heart and keep feeling the love and gratitude. Now expand that feeling throughout your heart, then throughout your body and then throughout the room you’re in. Starting to feel expanded? That’s a freeing, wonderful and happy feeling which expands you to receive more of the good things you want! Enjoy the bliss!
  2. Keep a gratitude journal. It doesn’t have to be long and time-consuming to do. First, start with a journal and pen that feels good to you. Then either in the morning or evening, make a list of 5-10 things you are grateful for that day. Oprah Winfrey stated once on her tv show years ago that she did this daily. Try to think of different things to be grateful for so that you stretch yourself and realize how much good you have in your life. It can be even as small as enjoying a good cup of coffee or ice cream cone. Doing this daily, really helps raise your vibration and that feels so good.
  3. Look around your environment and focus on something that you enjoy looking at (a picture of your child, your grandmother’s ring, the vase you bought that is beautiful — anything at all) and think about how this object is beautiful, useful or triggers happy memories, etc. The longer you look at and feel appreciation, the more your feelings will increase. Once your good feelings strengthen, choose another object and rinse and repeat.

All of these practices help you to practice feeling good and that raises your vibration. The more you can maintain those good feeling vibes, the more happy, good thoughts, experiences, people and things can enter your life. It’s an ongoing practice for us to keep our thoughts and vibrations positive — but one that is so worth it!!

Are You Always Waiting and Hoping to be Happy?

Do you keep putting off being happy?

Do you find yourself saying: “I’ll be happy when…”

I’ll be happy when I get the  job I want.

I’ll be happy when I lose the weight.

I’ll be happy when I find my perfect partner.

I’ll be happy when I make a $1,000,000.

I’ll be happy when I retire.

The list goes on and on…

But the truth is the world  doesn’t work that way.

You see the universe responds to the energy you put out. And if that energy is not what you really want, then what you want doesn’t ever materialize. If it does materialize, it’s not exactly what you really want. Think about it. If you believe that you’ll finally be happy when you make a $1,000,000, well then for most of us, we’ll actually never be truly happy. There will always be a part of us that is not really satisfied with ourselves and with life. When we live this way (and most of us do) we are actually pushing away happiness and all that it brings into our lives. We’re never really fully present and appreciating what we do have right in front of us. It could be our child who just lost her tooth for the first time and is so excited to share her milestone with us, but we’re busy on our phone or laptop reviewing our finances or going over details of a business deal. Time is precious and it moves on with or without our being present in the moment. Our child will never have that same experience quite the same way ever again.

If we’re not really in the moment appreciating what we do have in front of us, then the moment passes and is gone forever. If we keep putting off being happy, then we’ll always be searching for happiness. We’ll always be in the process of losing weight, finding the perfect man/woman to make us complete, or fill in the blank.

I’ve always been one of those persons putting off being happy. But I’ve discovered the secret to getting what you want… it’s being happy and grateful for what I do have now. What we focus on expands is one way of looking at the law of attraction. So it makes perfect sense that if we’re focusing on always becoming happy in the future, well then, we’ll be just that… always pushing off being happy in the future. Only that future day won’t ever come because it’s always out of reach. 

the good news is that we have the choice to be happy now no matter what is going on in our world.

I remember when I was contemplating divorcing my husband of 20 years. I loved him but could not live with him and I was exhausted and depleted with trying to make him and everyone happy. One day, the light bulb went off in my head and I realized I need to be happy and the only person who can do that is me! When I decided to be happy, I began to look for things in my life that I was blessed with.. 2 beautiful, loving, healthy children, a home, etc. and I began to feel more and more grateful for my life and myself. I began to feel happier no matter what was going on. I’m mindful of this very powerful principle every single day because it was a powerful decision I made to be happy. When I’m happy from inside me, that radiates out to everyone around me. We all have free will so we can’t make someone happy or feel better but if they feel our elevated energy they have the choice to step up into it too. That’s a gift we can give to each other… even a genuine smile can change someone’s day for the better.

3 Steps to Break the Habit of Negative Thinking…And Change Direction

Do you ever find yourself ruminating about something that has happened or something that you want to happen?

Most people do… a lot. It’s usually not a good feeling and comes about because of a negative thought of which we just can’t seem to let go.

It can cause us to worry, feel overwhelmed or feel sad. Those negative feelings will only bring us more worry, overwhelm or sadness. It’s similar to someone telling you to not think about a purple elephant. You then can’t think about anything else — even if you try.

Changing your focus is key.

When we focus on something (whether we want to or not) we get more of the same. For example, when we focus on not hitting any traffic lights so that we’re not late for an appointment, we will usually hit every traffic light along the way!

We feel like nothing is going our way. Right? Well, it actually is going our way… the way our thoughts are going.

Our thoughts trigger our emotions. In this case, anxiety, frustration, worry. We unconsciously send out signals that is what we want to attract… more anxiety, frustration, worry. It’s like a little prayer we send out to the Universe saying “yes, please, send me more of this since this is what I’m focusing on.”

That’s how powerful we are!

The good news is that we can, literally, change our thoughts and emotions to what we do want. With practice, this becomes quicker and easier over time.

So how do we do it?

One way is to realize that when we catch ourselves feeling anxious, frustrated etc., it doesn’t feel good. And if something doesn’t feel good, we are not in harmony with what we want.

For example, we may want more money and tell ourselves “I easily attract money” but inside, we’re feeling anxious because we may be in debt or just lost our job. What we’re feeling and what we’re saying are out of balance.

We’re sending out mixed signals!

The Universe responds to the strongest signal which would more than likely be the stress and frustration of not having money. Luckily, we can change our signals!

Once we catch ourselves feeling negative about something, we realize we are thinking about what we don’t want. We’ve become good at this over the course of our lives.

Instead, we can:

  1. Stop and think about what we do want — which is usually the opposite of what we’re thinking.
  2. Get into emotional connection with what we want, by asking ourselveswhy do I want this? This emotional connection is very important.
  3. Then ask how will I feel when I get what I want? Just let yourself go and float into that feeling. Marinate in it for a minute or longer

The longer, the better since, according to the teachings of Abraham Hicks, it only takes 17 seconds of focusing on something to attract a matching vibration and 68 seconds to start the manifestation of it into our reality. Try it!!

Take control.

Notice when you’re having negative feelings and thoughts and turn them around. They really do go hand in hand. Thoughts lead to emotions which lead to habits. Habits can be broken and new habits can be formed.

It just takes practice!

Start creating new habits… and watch your reality start to shift. When we shift our thoughts, we shift our world. It’s like putting money in a bank… little by little your account will grow and you’ll see the changes you want. Have fun with it!
